Dissecting the Physical Access Point

Before establishing wireless network infrastructure mode (BSS) is useful to first get acquainted with the main character, namely Access Point (AP). The author uses AP Linksys Wireless - G Broadband Router WRT54G models. though the physical components of AP among different from one another, but the supporting components of an AP will not be much different as the antenna, ports, indicator lights, power and others. It means that when we understand the physical form of the AP hopefully we will not have difficulty to understand the physical form of the other AP.

Linksys Wireless - G Broadband Router is constitute I use 3 in 1 device because it can be used as an Access Point capable of handling client with 802.11b and 802.11g standards. The device also comes with an Ethernet port that can be used to connect to a wired network and the latter can serve as a router so that it can be used to share high speed internet network between members. For a basic understanding of the AP as a computer server that has the ability to handle network like DHCP, routers, etc. gatetway .

In addition, this device supports WEP and WPA encryption, DHCP server, VPN (Virtual Private Network). MAC Addrees, and the ability to filter the user in accessing the internet in the network.

In the scheme of Figure shown how the use of each port on the device Linksys Wireless - G Broadband Router WRT45G. we can connect the WAN port to ADSL modem ADSL modem example of Telkom to get Telkom Speedy internet service. RJ - 45 ports (4 pieces) we can connect directly to a computer via UTP cable (straight type) or if we want the number of client network of more than 4 Ethernet LAN, we can connect to the HUB / Switch. Through the above scheme we can connect the wireless network to a wired network so that client members on each network can still communicate.
